Is it the weekend yet? | 5-11-23

Right, I’ve decided I’m completely useless at keeping this weekly posting schedule so I’m going to try monthly and see if I can keep to that.

I have been so incredibly busy since I have come back from my honeymoon. Which is partly the reason I just haven’t had the time to keep this updated. I haven’t had a free weekend since!

Anyway~

Honeymoon went spectacularly. Cameron and I spent three weeks traveling America. We started in Los Angeles, went to Atlanta for Dragoncon and then spent the last of it in Florida at Universal Studios and Walt Disney World. We both ate entirely too much food and had a blast. Here’s a collection of some of my favorite photos.

As soon as we touched down back in NZ, I had a few days to recover before I had to start prepping for Sandbox Fandom Festival. It was the first pop culture convention run by my best friend Anna in our hometown. She asked me to judge the cosplay contest for her. It was a huge success and I’m really looking forward to next years one.

After that, I had a couple of weeks to finish the costumes I had started making for the Northland Bernina Fashion Awards earlier in the year. It was mostly redoing the wig for mine and making the jacket for Cams. Then there was the weeks worth of rehearsals before the big day. I ended up winning the cosplay section so that was neat.

Still no break for me, I then had to finish another competition piece that I had started earlier in the year. I had about a week to finish the Queen Amidala now for the All Stars competition at Armageddon Expo on labour day weekend. I literally finished it the day before the contest. Something I don’t usually do but I was beyond exhausted at this point and in desperate need of a break.

I wore it to the convention, not having tried the whole thing on together yet and discovered after a full 7 hours of wearing it that it was far too heavy to wear for that long, it was hot, and the helmet crushed one of my ears and made it numb for a few days.

I didn’t win the contest but I never really expected to. Just finishing and having that dress in my possession was a dream come true.

And finally, last night I performed my first stand up comedy act as Wednesday Addams at Annas Vintage Halloween Cabaret that she put together. I didn’t expect anyone to laugh at my jokes and was pleasantly surprised that they did.

Do I look tired yet?

So as you can imagine, I am beyond tired at this point and could happily sleep until the new year. But alas, there are too many costumes to make and I’m already neck deep in research for 2024 plans.

Thanks for reading and I’ll catch up again soon.
