Background : I wanted to make this outfit because I felt I needed something new to wear to the Summer cosplay picnic I’d organized. Plus, it matches the Beach Ken look I made earlier in the year too.

Dress/Shorts :

I used the Barbie PDF pattern for Lunneth for this. It was so nice not to have to draft a pattern myself for once. I didn’t even have to make any alterations either. Though I did wish I had made a mockup first because I should/should have taken the waist in so it fitted better and was more flattering. Great pattern overall though.

Hat :

I used the Perfect Picture Day Hat pattern by Ilona Millinery. I never thought I’d be able to make a proper hat from scratch but with the help of this pattern and her super helpful/in-depth making of video it was a breeze! I only wish that I had access to the plastic brim reed she used rather than the metal one I had to use because it was all I could find in NZ.

Accessories :

I brought the necklace and earrings from Ali Express and couldn’t be more happy with them.

The shoes I brought secondhand. I was looking for a pair of sandals with a raffia wedge. Ideally I would have liked the wedge to be higher but for $2 I can’t complain. I began by painting the polka dots parts with a white undercoat paint and then decided to take off the bows on the toes. Then I did two top coats of a baby pink satin paint.
