First of all, yes these things absolutely terrify me. But I had to give them a go because I love vintage and I love Disney.
The pattern was pretty straight forward to follow. I only really struggled with the pieces in the cheek and Minnies shoes due to the tiny seam allowances.
The only things I changed from the pattern was leaving at the wire armatures because I was gifting them to children and I didn’t want to risk them poking through. And I left off a lot of the hand embroidery (such as the under eye lines) in an attempt to make them look less creepy. Did it work? Absolutely not.
I also added plush pallets to their hands and feet and put a squeaker in their noses. I stuffed them quite firmly and as a result, they were able to stand on their own without the need of the wire armature.
I do like how on Mickey, his pants are removable. I wish they’d done the same for Minnies skirt as it might be nice for kids to change up their clothing if they wished.
Despite them scaring me, the kids I gifted them to adored them. They spent the whole weekend playing non-stop with them.
Would I make these again? Probably not. They’re not my kind of creepy cute and the effort to sew the cheek part was too frustrating for me to want to attempt them again.
