Learning something new, aggressively.

I am absolutely committed to learn to crochet this year. One of my dream costumes, ever since I saw it on the T.V in the 90s, has been Felicity Shagwell’s orange and magenta crocheted mini dress.

Periodically, I would check online to see if anyone had written a crochet pattern for it, and last year, someone finally did *check it out here*

Which brings me around to this year. I brought some Pokemon themed crochet books, that have patterns for beginners, and I am nothing if not determined to learn how to do it so I can make Felicity’s dress.

I was able to get the first Pokemon crochet book locally and am still waiting for the other two to ship from their suppliers. So far I have managed to make two whole Pokemon. The first of which was Jigglypuff. I used a fluffy, soft yarn which made the whole thing rather difficult as I could barely see where I was meant to be putting my crochet hook.

Next I chose to make Wobbuffet. Because why? Why out of all Pokemon, did they chose to pattern this guy? Luckily my husband loves the weird freaky Pokemon so I made it for him. Learning from Jiggypuff, I used a more ‘normal’ yarn this time so I could see what I was doing a bit easier.

I adore his little tail. I think I’m starting to get a hang of the basics, so I’m going to try one of the more challenging mons next.

Costume wise, I’ve been working on The White Queen from Alice in Wonderland, in between working on crochet and the Shrek quilt I’ve been making my husband since before Christmas (More about that in a future post I promise).

This was the last WIP photo I took of her. I’m just about done with all the top pieces which means I’m going to have to figure out what I’m going to do for the skirts and under layers very soon.

I’ve been procrastinating heavily with this project, I don’t know why. Perhaps it’s because it’s been on my dream list since I saw the film in 2010 and I really don’t want to mess up any part of it. But I have been procrastinating productively at least/ Not only have I been crocheting and quilting, but I did my first ever paintings for at least the past seven years.

If you’ve got time, and I mean A LOT of time, I could chew your ear off with all the lore about these two, it fascinates me. Anyway, I thrifted the frames years ago and have always wanted to paint some portraits to replace the old ripped and frayed ones that they had come with. I’m super happy with the results!

So yeah, I’ve been pretty busy, just not with the tings you’d usually expect from me.

Who knows what I’ll be doing next.

Make sure to stick around and find out!
