Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Made for : Auckland Armageddon Expo 2019
Background : This whole costume came about because I found some really cheap purple corduroy fabric at my local emporium store and it’s one I’d wanted to make for a while.

construction
Hat : I brought a white woolen top hat from Ali Express sand painted it orange using a can of spray paint I found in my dads garage. I wish I’d used a colour that wasn’t such a bright orange. Wonka’s hat is much more of a caramelly brown colour.
Vest : Made using my all time favourite vest pattern – Butterick B6339. I’ve used this to make Joker’s tuxedo vest, and a vest for my husbands wedding suit before we decided against wearing a vest.
I made it using view C as the base and for once, I didn’t have to alter any part of it. The front of the vest was made from a floral pink and purple cotton with a metallic print on it. The back was made from a pink and purple pinstripe fabric.
Coat : The coat was made from Butterick B6502 and I once again, didn’t have to alter it! I used a purple corduroy for the outer fabric and lined it with a golden glitter cotton. All of the edges were trimmed with a purply/pink braided trim.
Bowtie : I used the bow pattern from Simplicity 8160. I made it from a pale gold satin. It had a clip glued to the back.
Shirt + Pants + Shoes : All found at a secondhand store.
