Yep, seven months in to the year and I’ve actually finished something. This has been an incredibly slow year for me making wise. I think for the first time ever, I have become completely burnt out when it comes to costume making. Instead, I’ve found my self crocheting every spare opportunity I’ve had (more on that later though.)
However, I was given the motivation I needed to get something finished when a month ago, I was asked if I would like to attend the Goblin’s Masque ball, a week out from the event…. So what better time to get my White Queen that I started a year and a half ago finished so I could have something to wear?
The ball itself was incredible. It was held in the St Matthew’s cathedral in Auckland city. I must admit, part of me accepted the tickets out of pure curiosity as to what the inside of the venue looked like. I used live directly across the road from it when I first moved to Auckland in 2010 and always wondered.
I’m so glad that I did though, the interior was stunning, everything I could have imagined and it was decorated to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Labyrinth film. The organisers had utterly outdone themselves.
Then there were all the attendees in there immaculate costumes! So much time and effort had gone in to every aspect of the party and I can not wait to attend future events.
And that’s the story of how I finally got my butt in to gear and finished Mirana, the white queen. Finally.
Which brings me around to what else I’ve been making. I started a Pokemon crochet square blanket using the book Pokemon Crochet Squares by Ira Rott.
I’ve finished every square in the book now, apart from the features that were meant to be made from felt. Instead, I’ve decided to make things even harder for myself and have been felting wool directly on to the squares.
I’ve also started on Mirabel’s crochet bag. I’ve made the whole bag and have done about half the embroidery that covers it.
For the rest of the year, I have a BUNCH of costumes I’m hoping to get done for the upcoming Springeddon, my only convention of the year. I’ve started Ariel, collected bits and bobs for Lisa Swallows and am debating what to make for my fourth costume for the weekend. Perhaps Princess Aurora or Jane Porter? Both of which I have slowly been collecting fabrics and such for as well.
