First of all, why did no one ever tell me that McCall’s released a line of Pokemon patterns in the 90s? It’s a combination of my two favourite loves – Pokemon and sewing. Anyway ~ I found out about them via vintage Pokemon collectors group that I’m a part of on Facebook. Right away I flew over to eBay to see if there were any on there and as luck would have it, there were. I decided to buy the Pikachu backpack one because a- he’s my favourite Pokemon and b- I actually tried to make my own Pikachu backpack when I was in high school and it turned out terrifyingly terrible. I currently have three licensed Pikachu backpacks in my collection so I’m really curious to see how my second attempt at making a bag will turn out.

There’s also a bunch of children’s costumes in this pattern collection too, there’s Pikachu (obviously), Ash, Marill, Mewtwo, Bulbasaur and Charmeleon. I’m going to try my best to collect them all.

The rest of this week was dedicated to starting the Jareth to my Sarah costume which I finished last week. I began by making all the under clothes that he wears under his sparkly blue coat.

This included the blouse (Style 2208), cummerbund (Vogue V9073), and the pants (Simplicity S9343). The blouse and cummerbund were sewn according to the patterns directions exactly. The pants though, I altered them slightly. For a start I sewed them with a stretch fabric rather than the woven that it called for. That meant having to put them on Cameron inside out, pin either leg so that it was completely form-fitting and sewing down this new line instead.

I also made these wrist cuffs out out a lace I’d had in my stash for years. I chose to make these separate from everything because I wanted Cameron to be able to take them off when eating etc so they wouldn’t get in the way.

As per usual, I filmed the whole process for YouTube.

I was hoping to start the coat this coming week but I had forgotten I’d be out of town for my husbands graduation so we shall see if I do get around to it.

That’s all for this week, until next time!
